| Customer Reviews: Very solid racquet February 24, 2010 eno (Midland, Mi USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Recently purchased this racquet and it really performs. Shots that I simply could not make with my previous racquet now provide pleasant surprises. The feel is solid with practically no vibrations in your hand when you hit. For an intermediate player, this racquet can make an improvement in your game.
Great All-Court Racquet! September 14, 2009 Tigerbalm (Renton, WA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My background: Played #1 singles/doubles in High School and at some collegiate level. Mainly baseline player with some net play. My NTRP is 5.5+. I rely on my power and speed to hit winners and passing shots.
After using a Prince Graphite 90 through school and competitions, I was reluctant to switch to a new model. Until recently, I never found anything that gave me confidence and feel compared to my Graphite 90. I decided to demo the latest racquets like the Wilson Kfactors, Prince EXO3 Graphite 93, and various Babolat models.
Every racquet has it's own strengths and weakness, but the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick GT was the perfect fit for my tennis style. I also tried the previous model, the Pure Drive Cortex, and I simply did not like the feel at all! The new GT is a big improvement! Since the demo had factory strings and tension, I would definitely use a hybrid set at 60-62 lbs. Also, Babolat grips may be slightly bigger than other brands.
The main reasons that I did not like the Wilsons are the grip shape and lack of control on 2 hand backhands. The Wilson K Factor Six-One Tour (used by Federer) is heavy, very small sweet-spot, and requires a skill level a little more than mine to fully utilize its strengths. I prefer round racquet heads to oval-shaped. I like the grip shape of Prince and Babolat racquets over Wilson and Head. The new Prince EXO3 technology was disappointing, producing less feel than my old Graphite 90.
Now to the review. The first time I saw the Babolat GT (100 sq. in), I was instantly drawn to the awesome blue graphics! This was the best looking racquet I've ever seen. Although skeptical from using the previous model, I had to try it...and I am so glad I did! This has a great weight, not too heavy or light. It not only had tons of power off both sides, but the control was unbelievable. Sure, you have to have a fast swing speed to produce enough spin to keep it in the court. But if you are a power hitter, nothing matches it. I was also shocked at how crisp and solid this GT feels at the net. It was consistently better than the other racquets and gave me the confidence I never had at the net. Overheads and serves were accurate and harder than anything I've used before. Backhand slices and volleys are balanced and easier than the smaller heads. I was simply amazed at how this GT performed during all situations. I was able to hit winners even on the run and proved to be a lethal counter-punching weapon. The bigger sweet-spot enabled me to stay in longer rallys so I can pick my shots for winners. This GT does everything I've been looking for..and the most stylish looking graphics to boot! I could not ask for a better stick!
